The Memphis Grizzlies would likely never make this trade but it’s not the worst thing in the world

As previously mentioned, Williamson’s value is slightly higher than Morant’s at the present moment. Part of this is due to the fact that he’s built like a veteran NBA player, while Morant has room to grow physically.

That said, Williamson also comes along with injury concerns, which the Pelicans would get in return by receiving Jaren Jackson Jr. Williamson also hasn’t proven that he can help his team win games, something that Morant has done at an accelerated pace.

Right now, this trade makes a lot of sense for a Pelicans team that is desperate to either hold onto Williamson or receive a ton of value in return. On the contrary, it makes little-to-no sense for the Memphis Grizzlies to trade away their two future stars, one of whom just had the greatest all-around playoff performance by a Grizzly in franchise history.

If this was a video game, this trade might make sense. But this is the real world, with real relationships and real consequences. As a result, this trade will never happen and if it did, would make Grizzlies fans sick to their stomach.

It would be incredible for Memphis to acquire Williamson, but they may have to give away more value than he’s worth to get it done. Right now, Morant and Jackson Jr. may be in “untouchable” territory.
