Since the Grizzlies landed the #3 pick in this year's draft, the most commonly linked name this whole time has been Cam Boozer. Boozer had an incredibly impressive freshman season at Duke and should make an immediate NBA impact. With the draft not far away, it appears that Cam Boozer to Memphis is a step closer to reality.
This whole time, the Grizzlies' selection at #3 will be determined by whether or not the Utah Jazz select Darryn Peterson or Cam Boozer at #2. Even though both prospects would be great choices for the Grizzlies, it's impossible to not be excited about a potential Boozer-Edey frontcourt.
Boozer averaged 22.5 points, 10.2 rebounds, and 4.1 assists per game while also recording a 17.1 BPM (box plus-minus score), which is one of the highest ever. Simply put, Boozer is one of the most productive one-and-done prospects we have seen recently. Now, it looks like Zach Kleiman should land his dream target in Cam Boozer in next month's draft.
Boozer to Memphis is starting to feel inevitable
For all the Grizzlies fans that want Cam Boozer at #3, Jeremy Woo of ESPN gave a very encouraging update on Boozer. Woo had the following to say about Boozer:
"The lottery ultimately lined up well for Boozer, who will draw looks at No.1 and No. 2 and should feel good about the potential fits with the Memphis Grizzlies and Chicago. Rival teams view the Grizzlies as his most likely landing spot due to how well he fits that franchise's values and needs." -Jeremy Woo
Despite some concerns surrounding Boozer's vertical pop and defense, it is blatantly clear that he's one of the best players in the class and even has a case to go #1 overall. Boozer is still just 18 years old and has already displayed a well-rounded offensive skillset and tenacious ability to rebound. To begin his career, Boozer best fits with a quality defensive center, similar to his time at Duke when he played next to Patrick Ngongba II.
When thinking about a Zach Edey and Cam Boozer duo, Edey is the ideal player to help mitigate any early defensive concerns with Boozer. Given how well both players rebound and thrive in pick-and-roll, it is easy to see why the duo can become so dangerous. Similar to Boozer, Edey's physicality was downplayed in the pre-draft process but ended up translating to the league.
Even though there are valid questions about how much upside Boozer has compared to the other top prospects in this draft, Boozer is still very young and will make an immediate NBA impact with his offensive IQ and versatility. It is also not unreasonable to think that his strength will cause major problems for opposing defenses as his career progresses.
Despite a challenging 2025-26 season, Grizzlies fans have plenty to look forward to with this year's draft. Even though the team is already in a great position, picking at #3, it feels that the dream selection of Cam Boozer to Memphis is inching closer to reality.
