Quinten Post will now join the Grizzlies after the Warriors decided not to match his three-year, $30 million offer sheet. Selected 52nd overall in the 2024 NBA Draft, Post spent two seasons with Golden State, where he was a solid perimeter shooter and was often reliable. However, it simply made no sense for the Warriors to match his offer sheet, and now the Grizzlies got their guy.

What made this signing possible for the Grizzlies is that Quinten Post started on a two-way contract and received a two-year standard deal instead of four years, allowing him to become a restricted free agent this summer. The Grizzlies needed more quality center depth on the roster, and they got it in Quinten Post.

The Grizzlies also put in a provision that featured All-Defense Team incentives for Post that would've counted against the Warriors' apron salary, regardless of if Post ever achieved the accolade. Given that the Warriors were in pursuit of LeBron James and Draymond Green still hasn't signed, matching Post's offer sheet would have cost them significant flexibility.

The Grizzlies have made a major frontcourt overhaul

One of the biggest priorities heading into the offseason for the Grizzlies was improving the frontcourt around Zach Edey. Edey has shown significant potential but only appeared in 11 games last season and needed another surgery for his left ankle. It is safe to say that the Grizzlies have surrounded Zach Edey with an intriguing group of frontcourt talent.

After selecting Cam Boozer and Karim Lopez, the Grizzlies went out and traded for Isaiah Stewart on the second night of the draft. Shortly after, they traded Santi Aldama to the Mavericks and are now adding Quinten Post to a very new-look frontcourt. Post should be another reliable source of shooting for the team, and despite being 26 years old, his game could continue to evolve in Memphis.

So far in his career, Post has appeared in 109 games (49 starts) and ended up averaging 7.8 points, 3.8 rebounds, and 1.4 assists while shooting 36.4% from three. When thinking of stretch bigs, recent examples in Memphis such as Jay Huff and Jock Landale are good indicators that Quinten Post can be an effective offensive piece.

While Post will not offer the same level of rim protection as players such as Zach Edey and Isaiah Stewart, he will bring consistent energy and did show some defensive growth in his second season. Despite fears from many about an overpay, only year 1 of Post's deal is fully guaranteed at $9 million (plus incentives), while years 2 and 3 are worth $8.55 million (plus incentives).

The Grizzlies have made multiple surprising moves this offseason, and the new signing of Quinten Post is the latest one. As the Grizzlies continue the early stages of their rebuild, their overhauled frontcourt gives them a very promising start.
