On a spiritual level, Tony Allen belongs in Memphis. He made the city of Memphis his home, and the city of Memphis, in turn, accepted him with open arms. This entire era of basketball has been defined by the spirit and tenacity of Tony Allen. Even if the Grizzlies never win a championship, these will be the things that Memphians will always cherish.
On a pure basketball level, Memphis also remains a good fit for Tony. As seen in the playoff series against the Spurs, the Grizzlies still need a defensive stopper. Even at 35 years old, Tony Allen still provides that. The Memphis Grizzlies are also probably the team that will give him the most minutes and even the chance to start once again.
However, despite Tony’s place in the pantheon of Memphis, the Grizzlies aren’t the best situation for him. Memphis simply doesn’t have a strong chance of winning a championship like Golden State and….
