Christian Dudley: In this matchup featuring the Memphis Grizzlies and Phoenix Suns, Jarell Martin was hungry to say the least. The game was tight and there is already some recent bad history between these two clubs. Most notably, a recent rift had formed between the Grizzlies and Phoenix’s Tyler Ulis and Devin Booker.

As you can tell from the clip (directly below), the game was sloppy in the second quarter. Memphis’ second unit was having difficulty moving the basketball and ultimately Ulis came away with the steal. A fastbreak ensued. However, Jarell Martin was not about to allow Tyler Ulis get an easy bucket.

Nearly LeBron James-esque, Jarell sprints down the middle of the floor after the Suns’ point guard. Ulis firmly believes he beat the opposition down the floor. Oh how he was wrong. The Grizzlies’ Martin swats Tyler Ulis at the rim — a clean block off the glass.

Had Ulis not slowed his step in the paint, he probably would have gotten two points on his drive. Additionally, it would have been an easy two points if it were not for Jarell Martin’s hustle and effort to get back on defense. This is one reason that Orlando Magic fans will love the newest addition to their team’s roster.

The play did not result in the Memphis Grizzlies regaining possession of the rock. Regardless, Jarell shook up the play and reminded Tyler Ulis that scoring at the rim is not going to be easy in the Grindhouse despite the team’s poor record in 2017-18.
