Insurance Plan

All members of Grizz Nation had a terrible feeling come over them during an October 24th bout versus the Sacramento Kings. The Memphis Grizzlies’ three-time All-Star center, Marc Gasol, exited the game early due to an injury that appeared to be significant.

Thankfully Gasol only suffered a stinger and did not miss any time. However, the team was already down JaMychal Green. This left rookie Jaren Jackson Jr. and Ivan Rabb as the only other traditional big men to throw into action. Had Gasol been seriously injured, it could have been the end of the Grizzlies’ season.

Memphis could definitely use the additional frontcourt depth, though they have the capibility to showcase some small-ball lineups with their current group. Joakim Noah would be a tremendous player to place into the fold in case injuries arise at the four and/or five positions.

Standing at 6’11,” great size would remain in the Memphis Grizzlies’ arsenal in their reserve units. It would become a 50/50 toss-up for scrap minutes at center between Rabb and Noah.

This would be a great problem to have because Memphis would be able to rest Gasol in order to limit his minutes as the season progresses. Green has played some spot minutes at the five in order to relieve Marc, but that could potentially come to an end with the addition of Joakim Noah.

The signing of Noah could be a move that pays dividends throughout the season. This new-look Grizzlies team is built for success, and this addition is something that could bring longevity to their playoff hopes through the 82-game schedule.
